IUPAT Members at the Building and Construction Trades Department 100 Anniversary Legislative Conference.
IUPAT Wraps Up a Strong Presence at National Legislative Conference
On the week of April 14, 2008, the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department held its annual legislative conference with much fanfare and success. In addition to hosting numerous influential lawmakers, including the contenders for the Democratic nominee for president, the BCTD was celebrating its 100th Anniversary as well.
“We’ll celebrate 100 years of Building Trades history and achievement, and the nearly 100,000 new members who joined our ranks in this past year because of your efforts,” said BCTD President Mark Ayers to a record crowd of over 3,000 attendees from throughout the United States.
“Everyone has been writing us off as a dying breed facing a slow but sure extinction,” Ayers said to the cheering crowd. “But guess what, America? We are back, we are stronger and we are more focused. We are growing and we are as determined as ever.”
Nearly 200 members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades attended the event to listen to nation’s leaders, communicate their own ideas of how to recapture the country for working families and take time to visit Capitol Hill.
Thanks to each and every one of those members for attending this record breaking conference and we all look forward to putting the ideas and spirit gained at this event into practice on the many campaigns the IUPAT Army of Black and Gold supports in the United States.
