Taking Care of Our Own in Local Union 1140
General President James Williams received the following letter from Raymond Smith, business manager of Local 1140 in Anchorage, Alaska. He wanted the general president, and the rest of the IUPAT, to know that when two of our members in his local were called to duty and needed the proper equipment to stay safe in Iraq, the men and women of this union responded. Donations were made to both men for gear such as the proper harnesses, gloves and holster.

In addition to our union brothers and sisters making donations for the cause, one of our contractors also participated.

Our thanks to the men and women of Local 1140 for taking care of our own.

Mr. James Williams
General President
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades

Dear Sir and Brother:

This is to inform you that two members of IUPAT Local Union 1140 have been activated for military duty for January 4, 2005 to January 3, 2006.

The members are Brother Travis Jensen and Brother Jacob Leask. They are part of the 4th Recon Marines Reserve Unit. We at IUPAT Local Union 1140 were requested by these members for assistance in purchasing equipment they needed. The list of the equipment is enclosed.

We were happy to oblige and made a donation of $813 to each man. Our contractors, Arnell ICM, Co., also chipped in with a donation of their own. We believe our men and women that are serving deserve the best equipment and thus a better chance of returning after their tour of duty is complete. We want them to come home safe.

It is a sad state of affairs when the men and women fighting for this great nation are not provided the very best equipment they need to win and come back to us safely. We cannot outfit the complete services, but at least we can provide it for our members.

Just to let our leadership know we are supporting our members from this local union. Thank you in advance for your attention in this matter.

Respectfully,
Raymond Smith
Business Manager
