Labor Union Applauds the Passage of the Moving Forward Act Urges the Senate to Avoid Delay in Putting Americans Back to Work

Washington, D.C. – July 1, 2020 – Today, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades cheers efforts in the House to increase job opportunities for millions of hard-working American families by rebuilding America with green, resilient, modern, and job-creating infrastructure with the passage of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act.

For many years, the IUPAT, and it’s over 140,000 members have relied on job opportunities on American infrastructure projects to support their families and communities. We continue to urge Senate leadership and the Trump Administration to understand the needs of millions of workers and pass a robustly funded infrastructure package, broad in scope, with strong labor standards. The Moving Forward Act provides those opportunities and puts America on the path to economic recovery.

The IUPAT and it’s affiliates commend Speaker Pelosi for delivering this long-awaited, and desperately-needed infrastructure agenda to the Senate and urge Majority Leader McConnell to avoid delay. Good paying jobs, whether in transportation, education, or new clean energy technologies, keep the bills paid and food on the table for our members and millions of Americans, especially today as we face an uncertain economic outlook due to the effects of the COVID-19 economic recession.

Any additional delay in funding fixes for our nation’s deficient infrastructure leaves workers at further financial risk and our economy in stagnation.

Finally, we would like to thank members of the House for their continued commitment to local prevailing wage rates and recognize that infrastructure funding is the prescription to get America moving forward and heal a broken economy.
