Looking for a New Career?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the number of jobs in the construction industry is expected to grow 19 percent through the year 2018. That’s significantly higher than the projected growth of all industries combined at only 11 percent.

Why are workers in construction soon to be in such high demand? In addition to the significant number of baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) reaching retirement age in the immediate future, according to the BLS, the “replacement of many industrial plants has been delayed for years, and a large number of structures will have to be replaced or remodeled. There will also be a need for all types of medical treatment facilities to meet the demands of the growing elderly population [and] construction of schools will be needed”, especially in areas with high population growth.

The type of construction, remodeling and refinishing described above suits workers in the
International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) the best. We work in what are called the Finishing Trades – commercial and industrial painting, drywall finishing and covering, floor covering installation (i.e. carpet, vinyl, etc.), glazing and glass work. These are the trades that will be hired to put a new shine on our aging infrastructure and buildings. That means if you’re a part of the Painters and Allied Trades, your skills will be in high demand. Plus, earnings in construction are higher than the average for all industries.

We’ll train you on the job and in the classroom while you earn a higher than average paycheck. We’ll also provide you with health and welfare benefits as well as a pension retirement plan. You’ll even have the opportunity to earn a college degree in our educational program.
