IUPAT and Labor Leaders Greet Montana Rep. Steve Daines at Power Facility

On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, Montana Congressman Steve Daines visited Northwestern Energy’s Dave Gates Generating Station (DGGS) as a part of a two-week tour across the state to meet with “Montana businesses and key stakeholders in energy and resources based industries and conservation efforts,” according to a statement released by Daines’ office.

Montana Congressman Steve Daines (left) visited the Dave Gates Generating Station in Anaconda on March 27. IUPAT Representative Don Mullin joined fellow union members in welcoming the congressman to the facility.

He was welcomed by Northwest Energy CEO Bob Rowe and representatives from some of the Building Trades unions that represent workers who not only built the state-of-the-art $200 million facility that opened in 2011, but many who currently oversee the operations at the natural gas fired generating unit as well.

Don Mullin, a representative from the International Union of Painters and Trades (IUPAT) District Council 82, was among the labor representatives greeting the congressman.  “It was a pleasure to meet with the congressman and have the opportunity to discuss what we offer Montana in skilled labor to attract more large-scale projects, and to create more jobs and opportunities in this great state,” said Mullin.

In addition to Mullin and the IUPAT, other unions represented included the Laborers, Boilermakers, Operating Engineers, Electrical Workers, Ironworkers, Pipefitters and Sheet Metal Workers.  Representatives from the local AFL-CIO participated as well.
