President Barack Obama brought the debate over guest workers directly to the White House Tuesday, hosting advocates and business leaders in an effort to speed consensus for — and rally support against Republican calls to slow down — immigration reform.
Richard Trumka, the CEO of the AFL-CIO, has met several times with Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donahue, and was in the president’s Tuesday morning meeting with progressive groups. Afterwards, he said he was “hopeful” after a discussion with Obama “about a data-driven system that is actually driven by needs and not by aspirations of employers.”
