Indiana IUPAT Recruiting Veterans

Last week, under the direction of IUPAT District Council 91 Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer Shawn Solner, IUPAT representatives participated in an open recruitment at the 113th Combat Engineer Battalion Employer Engagement event as part of the Indiana National Guard recruitment day.

Master Sergeant Thomas presented DC 91 Instructor Penny Shepherd and IUPAT SAGP Dan Penski with an appreciation award for DC 91.

Mr. Bob Carnagey, from the Department of Veterans Affairs, organized and coordinated the event and was very pleased that IUPAT DC 91 took the time to participate. Each vendor in attendance had the opportunity to address the veterans as a group to explain the crafts and speak about the opportunities available within their organizations. There was a wide variety of employers in attendance – Indiana Wesleyan College, Edward Jones Investors, Indiana Corrections, Standard Bank, Horizon Bank, Brandenburg Demolition, Jupiter Aluminum Corp, Electrician, Roofers, Carpenters, Ironworkers and the IUPAT. Plenty of veterans inquired about the glazing trades, which was the main focus of recruitment, and DC 91 plans to grow its membership and help these veterans obtain careers within the Finishing Trades at the same time.  It’s all a part of the IUPAT Painters and Allied Trades Veterans Program.
