The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades is an advocate for higher learning. We believe that the children of our members should have the opportunity to attend college and through our scholarship program we give our aspiring scholars the chance to earn some extra financing toward their education. Many of our members aren’t aware of the scholarships available for our young students. Therefore, we would like to remind everyone of what we have to offer.
Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship
Given 10 times annually, the S. Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship is available to all sons, daughters and legal dependants of IUPAT members in good standing. This scholarship was created in honor of S. Frank “Bud” Raftery’s service to the International Union, his accomplishments and his progressive thinking. To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit an essay not less than 1,000 or more than 2,000 words on an essay topic chosen by the IUPAT Scholarship Committee. All essays selected by the committee will receive the S. Frank “Bud” Raftery Scholarship grant worth $2,000.
A.L. “Mike” Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III Sports Scholarship
Originally introduced at the 1999 IUPAT General Convention, the A.L. “Mike” Monroe/Ralph D. Williams, III Sports Scholarship was created to offer student athletes the chance to pursue their athletic ambitions while earning an advanced educational degree at the academic institution of their choosing. Four grants of $5,000 are given annually (one grant per region) by the IUPAT Scholarship Committee. The namesakes of this scholarship were both accomplished athletes, however they never got the chance to go to college due to a lack of resources. This scholarship named in their honor will give IUPAT member’s children the chance for the education they never had.
