International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35 has joined up with the non-profit arts group Beyond Walls to support a series of art-based community revitalization efforts in Lynn, Massachusetts. As part of their Partnership Works community engagement campaign, IUPAT DC 35 contributed $50,000, along with paint supplies, labor, and technical training in support of the project.

The Beyond Walls initiative brings together local businesses, community members, and artists from around the world to make for a safer, more vibrant downtown area. In addition to installing historical neon light signs to better illuminate the neighborhood and reinvigorate local businesses, the initiative also gathered international and local artists to paint murals across 10 public walls, placed dynamic LED lighting to brighten overpasses, and created a sculpture using one of the nation’s first-ever jet engines, a nod to the city’s legacy of manufacturing and innovation.
