Although the IUPAT Community Day of Action has passed, District Council 711 continues to participate in projects that improve its community. Members of DC 711 volunteered their time and expertise to finishing drywall and painting for Project Haven, an organization that provides homeless veterans with apartments in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Work began on August 18, with members from the council finishing drywall in a three-story apartment complex in preparation for the painting to take place the following month. On September 9, DC 711 volunteers began painting the complex. In total, DC 711 finished eight apartments and two offices, as well as all of the hallways and stairwells. Materials for the project were generously donated by Siperstein’s and Sherwin-Williams Paint.
The IUPAT and DC 711 thanks all the volunteers that contributed to the Project Haven makeover.
