In 2016, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Finishing Trades Institute (FTI) continued to set the standard for training and education in the finishing industry. Each year, the FTI offers a variety of courses for our members to receive skills upgrade training. These course offerings are designed to “train-the-trainer”, preparing our instructors to deliver important and up-to-date training to the journey workers at their district councils.

As the year comes to a close, the FTI continues to train our trainers and members.  In December FTI hosted the Overton Safety Training and National Certified Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification class. The Overton Safety Training preparatory class and NCCCO National Certification exams are provided to assist the employer in meeting both the Federal OSHA and/or individual State construction regulatory requirement for Nationally Certified Crane Operators, and for general industry use.

The course provides professional preparatory safety training workshops with an interactive curriculum designed to assist the employer in preparing operators to take and pass the applicable NCCCO National Certification Written Exams. From November 28 through December 2, 2016 glazing instructors from all over the United States participated in the Overton/NCCCO course at the IUPAT Hanover Campus. Training consisted of classroom instruction, written exams and practical application spread throughout a 40-hour week.  At the conclusion of the course, our participants gained the Overton/NCCCO certifications, making them more marketable to obtain and maintain work in the field.
