Today is Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. It is today, in both countries, that we honor those who have served to protect our freedoms.
In the U.S., there are 18.8 million military veterans, with 9.3 million of those men and women 65 or older.
A number of national chains and restaurants, such as Bob Evans, Longhorn Steakhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, are offering deals to veterans as a show of thanks in the United States. See the complete list here.
Also, the IUPAT has its own programs to put veterans to work once they come back from serving. Learn more about the Painter and Allied Trades Veterans Program here.
In Canada, Remembrance Day is honored by wearing bright red poppies. These paper flowers are sold as a nationwide charity drive to raise funds to support members of the Armed Forces. There are over 600,000 veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Take a moment today to remember and honor those who have served our countries.
