IUPAT District Council 9 – New York City

Members of the District Council 9 apprenticeship program and the Healing Emergency and Response Team (HEART 9/11) worked partnered in June to renovate and restore the historic New York City Fire Museum. HEART 9/11 was founded by volunteers of the Fire Department New York, the New York Police Department, the Port Authority Police Department and the New York City Building Trades in the aftermath of 9/11. In addition to volunteering on projects such as this historic fire museum, the men and women of HEART 9/11 use their expertise to respond and rebuild in times of crisis throughout the country.
The combined efforts of the DC 9 volunteers and HEART 9/11 yielded exceptional results and they were able to complete the museum restoration within three days. HEART 9/11 has previously worked with DC 9 on restoring damaged homes, community centers and local churches surrounding Brooklyn’s Gerritsen Beach in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
