On Wednesday, August 2, members representing IUPAT District Council 9 in New York City were joined by local elected officials, community activists and immigration and advocacy groups to fight the refusal by the Asylum Office to release two beloved fathers and union members inhumanely detained and fast-tracked for deportation.
Amid increasingly predatory national immigration policies, two beloved fathers,
community volunteers, and rank and file union members have been detained and are being unjustly fast-tracked for deportation by ICE. After simply trying to go to work, Hugo Mejia and Rodrigo Nunez, two San Francisco Bay Area construction workers, were arrested and have been in immigration detention since May 7, 2017. Hugo and Rodrigo’s case is just one example of the injustices that occur across the country every day and are increasing at an alarming rate. Now is a time for all working people to come together in solidarity.
