IUPAT In Response to Reports of Trump Administration’s Possible End to DACA

Washington, DC—The following is a statement from IUPAT General President Kenneth Rigmaiden.

“I am deeply concerned and outraged by the reports that the Trump administration is considering putting an end to the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program. I believe that just action will be both irresponsible and illogical to the well-being of our economy.

“DACA allows certain young people who came to this country before they turned 16 to live and work in the U.S., providing temporary relief from deportation. We know from first-hand experience through our members and their families what a profound impact the program has had at their job sites, their homes and in their communities.

“We strongly urge President Trump and all Republican officials to protect and defend DACA. Failing to do so will further reveal an administration that fails to address the interests of all working people in our nation.”
