The apprenticeship and continuing education programs of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades are continually looking for additional resources to maintain our competitive edge over our non-union counterparts on the job.
One such resource is grants awarded from the government. This summer, IUPAT District Council 21 Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region in Philadelphia was given a $140,000 grant from the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program to provide training in the construction industry.
The focus of the program is to provide training and education for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces, and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the OSH Act. Since 1978, over 2.1 million workers have been trained through this program.
