Union-Driven Give-Back Projects

This year, on the Community Day of Action, District Council 50 gave back on the baseball field, at a community center, and to a Boy Scout camp. On April 13, nine DC 50 members repainted the back stops, dugouts, concession stand and the Lihue baseball field on the island of Kauai.

Another 62 volunteers did kokua at the Kapahulu Center, and at Camp Pupukea, a Boy Scout camp. The projects involved restriping a parking lot, and repainting restrooms, hallways, a dining hall, a kitchen, and offices.

“It’s always great to see all of our members come together to show off their professional skills. For many of the apprentices, this was the first time participating in a union-driven give-back project. It was amazing to see all trades working as one,” said DC 50 BM/ST Ryden Valmoja, who worked tirelessly to coordinate the logistics.

Next year, DC 50’s goal will be to hold community service projects throughout the state on each of the islands. Mahalo to everyone who participated in this year’s events.
