Statement: President Biden signs Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law with IUPAT President Williams in attendance
WASHINGTON, D.C. — This afternoon President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (“IIJA”) into law. This bill will deliver a much needed investment in our country’s aging infrastructure and create millions of jobs with family sustaining wages.
Now is the time for Congress to finish the job and pass the companion legislation to the IIJA, the Build Back Better Act. Together, these two bills represent the cornerstone of President Biden’s agenda and will reinvigorate our economy, deliver portions of the PRO Act, and invest heavily in green infrastructure.
IUPAT General President Jimmy Williams, Jr, who was in attendance during the ceremony today, made the following statement:
“Today is a historic day. For too long, robust infrastructure investment has been a political football and a promise unkept. We finally have a President who delivered.
The potential of the bipartisan infrastructure bill signed into law by President Biden today is most notable on the first day of National Apprenticeship Week. This bill could lead to a new generation of apprentices working on transformational projects that will help rebuild our country.
Whether it be the maintenance and rehabilitation of our water infrastructure, ports and airports or our bridges, our union is ready from coast to coast to get to work to positively shape our country’s future.”
