Statement: IUPAT Applauds President Biden’s Executive Order on Project Labor Agreements

International Union of Painters and Allied Trades General President Jimmy Williams, Jr. issued the following statement regarding the Executive Order requiring project labor agreements on federal infrastructure projects:

“President Biden’s executive order is incredible news for working people. Project labor agreements (PLAs) standardize working conditions across a project and ensure that all working people receive fair wages, benefits, and safe working conditions.

“We commend the President for signing an executive order that will unquestionably raise standards within our industry and give working people across the country access to apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

“This executive order will protect the public interest, create opportunities for workers in disadvantaged and marginalized communities, and improve the construction market by standardizing labor conditions across the sector.”
