The IUPAT Applauds Choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz As Democratic Nominee for Vice President

Press Releases

Hanover, MD – Vice President Harris has played a significant role in standing up for working people in the Biden-Harris administration, and we applaud her choice for Vice President. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is a union member, a teacher, a coach, and a veteran. As a life-long public servant, he understands the issues that are important to our members and their families. Under his leadership, the Minnesota state legislature passed the Minnesota Miracle, the most pro-worker package of laws in decades, which allows workers to opt out of anti-union captive audience meetings, gives workers more protections against wage theft, and makes it easier for workers to organize. These are all victories that matter deeply to our members, and that our union wants to see on the federal level with the passage of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

Jimmy Williams Jr., General President of the IUPAT, issued the following statement:

“The Harris-Walz ticket will continue to build on the gains that the Biden-Harris administration has made for IUPAT members, other union members, and working families across the country. From now until November, we will be having conversations with our members to ensure that they know which candidates will actually champion the rights of workers and deliver a pro-labor agenda. The choice couldn’t be more clear.”
