Election Information: The Choice is Clear
News
The presidential election is a week away, and General President Jimmy Williams, Jr., along with other members of the General Executive Board, have been meeting with members of the IUPAT in battleground states across the country. They have been attending union meetings, going to worksites, and knocking on doors in order to reach as many members as possible. We also have a great website that tells you everything you need to know about next week’s election.
There is so much at stake in this election, including our work, our pay, our benefits, our pension, and our union rights, so we want to make sure you know the facts about the Biden-Harris administration. Here are just some of the things they’ve done to support our union and other working people:
- Led the fight to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill that is creating 20,000 new construction jobs every month, putting our members to work for years to come.
- Introduced strict “buy American” provisions on federal infrastructure projects. Instead of creating jobs overseas, building materials from steel to electronics to fiber optic cable are all being made in the United States to create jobs for American workers.
- Protected our wages by mandating Project Labor Agreements on most federal construction projects.
- Ended employer-run apprenticeship programs and invested more than $100 million to strengthen and expand Registered Apprenticeship Programs like ours.
- Placed workers back in charge at the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board. In fact, Vice President Harris cast the tie-breaking vote to replace Trump’s union-busting attorney at the NLRB with one of our own union sisters. Under this new leadership, the NLRB and DOL are putting workers first. The Dept of Labor recently surpassed $1 billion returned to workers – including hundreds of IUPAT members – who were victims of wage theft.
- Saved over one million union members’ pensions – including IUPAT members – with the American Rescue Plan.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, had four years in the White House and made a lot of promises – about protecting pensions and investing in infrastructure – that never happened. In fact, he undercut our Registered Apprenticeship programs with his “industry-recognized apprenticeship programs”. And another Trump term would be worse. He has very strong ties to Project 2025, which plans to:
- Repeal Davis-Bacon, Project-Labor Agreements, and prevailing wage.
- Let states ban unions.
- Let employers stop paying overtime.
- Make it illegal for employers to voluntarily recognize unions.
- Allow employers to union-bust in secret using captive audience meetings.
Don’t believe us? Listen to Trump talk about unions and workers’ rights in his own words.
As your union, our job is to give you the facts. Think twice before you vote for a union buster for president, and check out vote.iupat.org for any questions about the upcoming election!
