IUPAT General President Jimmy Williams Jr. Challenges Union Members About Support for Trump, Wraps Up GOTV Bus Tour in Philadelphia

Press Releases

Philadelphia, PA – The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades’ (IUPAT) General President Jimmy Williams Jr. has traveled through battleground states Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, speaking to members of the union at meetings, jobsites, and canvasses for Harris-Walz.

President Williams is not afraid to ask tough questions of his members and to challenge them on their support for Donald Trump. Throughout the bus tour, Williams has met many IUPAT members who plan to vote for Trump, even though their union has endorsed Vice President Harris. A short video of an interaction between Williams and a union member can be accessed here and the media is invited to use this footage. This is just one example of the many conversations Williams has been having with members.

President Williams and other members of the union’s General Executive Board will be wrapping up their GOTV Bus Tour where it began, in Philadelphia, Williams’ hometown. They will be canvassing union members in the days leading up to the election, making sure they know what’s at stake on November 5th. Williams will be launching a canvass on Saturday, November 2nd at 10 AM at the Sprinklerfitters Union Hall (14004 McNulty Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154) and will be available for television, radio, and print interviews.

President Williams released the following statement:

“This election is just too important for our union to not do everything we possibly can to elect pro-union champions Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. The Biden-Harris administration put thousands of our members to work thanks to never before seen infrastructure investments. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance would roll back all of the current administration’s progress, and attack Davis-Bacon, Project Labor Agreements, and prevailing wage. Members of our union and other construction workers need to know the truth about what’s at stake in this election.”
